"Oh, but it's cold outside!" It's a fact of life that the economic climate is a bit chilly this holiday season. Is that affecting how you're doing your holiday shopping?

As the Northern hemisphere spins toward the shortest day of the year, it's getting dark earlier and earlier. What comforts do you fall back on when the days are short and the nights are long?

The World Series begins today, meaning balls will be hit, bases run, and homeruns scored. Remember the first time you got to first base? What was it like?

i hope the subject is romance and not athletics. i have no depth perception. i'm talking about athletics, no romance. Thankfully, romantic depth perception can be learned.
That being said, none of your biz, facebook! :0

Writer's Block: The Beatles

In their heyday, The Beatles were the center of the pop universe. Many groups have been hailed as the next Beatles, but does pop music even have a center anymore? Who represents the core of pop music to you?

there is no center anymore. the scene has splintered into niches, and there are no more stations that play "everything," but instead stations that specialize, meaning you only have to listen to music you already like, or that is very similar to what you already like. no one act can break through to all the masses anymore.

Madonna (i'm not a fan, but i do respect her ability to maintain a long career in a tough, man-dominated business) got started in the 80s. Don't know if any musician can become that big in this country. Maybe in India, where there aren't 800 tv stations and Satellite radio.

It's not possible to ahve a monopoly on the masses anymore. good for us indies, but makes it tougher for everyone to get enough attention, with some many entertainment options. (not just music)

If your life was made into a movie, what type of movie would you want it to be? Who would you choose to play yourself? Who would play the important people in your life?

romantic comedy.
all my music pals would be in it, singing ridiculous songs they wrote about my failed (and finally successful) romances. like the wedding singer.

What was your first car?

View 501 Answers

oh lordy my first car was a piece of crap VW rabbit, 1976, one of the 2 years that had a zillion recalls on it. it broke down every week (I got it used).
i loved that car- when ti was runnign it handled really great. but that was sort of outweighed by incidents such as the brakes going out as i was going 50MPH downhill towards a stopsign.
i finally sold it for nearly nothing to some immigrants. what a nightmare.

What is the most valuable thing you've ever had stolen from you?

View 500 Answers

materially- someone broke into my car and stole my radar detector. twice. it was a blessing in the end, as i ended up getting fewer tickets *without* the radar detector. but the second time they also ripped the rear view mirror off the windshield and stole some xmas presents from the backseat. that alaways sucks because fixing the car is expensive and the guy probably only got like $15 for all the stuff he stole. i had my cassette collection and wooden ladder stolen from me out of the storage area at my college dorm. there was a guy who lived in part of a house i lived in (split into 5 apts) who broke into *everyone's* apts and stole food and probably girls' underwear (i don't keep an inventory). i called the cops on him.

the most truly valuable thing i've had stolen from me was my privacy. someone broke into my place and was staring at me and rubbing my arm while i was sleeping. for the rest of the time i lived there, until i moved away and sold it, i could not sleep in my own house. he lived in the neighborhood and was out on bail. his stupid parents kept bailing him out every time he did stuff like this.

of course i've had kidney disease rob me of my health, and there's nothing more valuable than that. that sort o thing makes you realize that material things are easy to replace.
